'SOLDIER IN PRAYER"

I wanted to describe a private moment of person doing service for Canada.  Our soldier is in the shadows, his head tilted down, eyes shut.  Slung on his shoulder is a great big gun.

The Comox Valley military personal, who are or were stationed here, seem to have a strong desire to retire here.  I have many friends who have done just that.  Why not – this is the best place on earth.  – April Dyck

“FREEDOM FIGHTERS” is a painting I created to depict the courage of the Canadian women who join our forces.

Excellence, community and the desire to make a difference drive these female warriors.   We see them in our community, sometimes in uniform.  They chose a difficult role; they are subject to all the challenges of a male dominated workplace and the hardships most women experience in non-traditional roles.

The painting shows two Canadian women each looking towards you.  The main women stares out at you with a smirk – she proud to be Canadian fighter for freedom.  – A. Dyck
